Buick vehicles have given drivers the confidence to tackle the open road for over a century. Today, you can see that legacy with the iconic logo emblazoned on every new Buick SUV at Brown and Wood Buick GMC. Redesigned in 2022, this logo represents the Buick brand’s values and storied history. But what does the new logo mean exactly? Let’s dive into the history of this iconic image.

THE ORIGIN OF THE SHIELD

The Buick logo might be iconic, but it started very differently. Early Buick vehicles were adorned with a simple “Buick” outlined in gold, with a white-on-blue square variant appearing later.

It wasn’t until 1937 that the iconic shield design first appeared. Even then, it was just a single shield — representing the Buick family coat of arms. The red shield with a diagonal checkered stripe, a deer emblem on the top right, and a cross on the bottom left instantly became iconic.

THREE SHIELDS

In 1960, the Buick logo was redesigned with the now-familiar triple-shield design. The red shield carried over, with silver and blue variants added. The three shields represented the Buick models available at the time: the Buick LeSabre, Buick Invicta, and Buick Electra.

EXPLAINING THE NEW LOGO

The Buick logo has been refined several times with more straightforward and cleaner designs. In 2022, the company revealed another three-shield logo, arranged horizontally instead of diagonally, with colors focused on an interior loop. The redesign indicates the company’s evolving direction towards electric vehicles and sleeker designs.

GM vehicle drivers have relied on OnStar® for years to assist them on the road. However, GM recently announced that it would be phasing out this popular feature in older models. If you’re wondering whether your vehicle will be affected, let’s discuss which models aren’t supported and your alternatives.

WHAT MODELS ARE AFFECTED?

To be clear, OnStar is not being phased out for all GM vehicles. The change affects GM vehicles from early in the 2015 model year and before, including Buick, GMC, Chevrolet, Cadillac, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Saab, and other legacy marques. This change went into effect in 2023.

If you’re an OnStar member who uses the service on these vehicles, you should notice that your monthly OnStar subscription cost is lower. This is due to in-vehicle OnStar support going away.

WHY IS ONSTAR SUPPORT SUNSETTING?

There’s a simple reason why OnStar support is going away for these models. Older GM models use a Verizon 2G cellular signal to connect to the service. This network has since been discontinued in favor of faster, higher-bandwidth 4G and 5G networks, meaning the end of OnStar support for older vehicles.

WHAT ALTERNATIVES ARE THERE?

Even though onboard OnStar support is no longer available for these models, drivers aren’t out of options. You can still connect to an OnStar technician by calling 1-800-4ONSTAR; the service is available 24/7 to assist drivers. Alternatively, you can use the OnStar Guardian app to contact an agent.

CONTACT BROWN AND WOOD BUICK GMC FOR ONSTAR COMPATIBILITY

To learn whether your GM vehicle can still take advantage of OnStar or get help setting up the app, contact Brown and Wood Buick GMC. We will discuss your options and ensure you retain access to this helpful service.

Drivers who hate driving in snowy and icy conditions no doubt look forward to the coming of spring. We’re also gearing up for spring at Brown and Wood Buick GMC. With spring around the corner, it’s time to get your car ready for spring — and the Brown and Wood service team is here to help.

WASH YOUR CAR

Winter weather can take a toll on your car, and when the snow melts, you’ll probably notice a lot of dirt. So give your car a thorough washing, including the underbelly.

CHECK YOUR TIRES

As the cold weather subsides, you’ll want to inspect your tires to ensure they’re adequately inflated and not damaged. Of course, snow tires will need to be swapped out if they’re installed.

CHECK YOUR WIPERS

With the spring months comes plenty of rain. Thus, you want to check that your windshield wipers are still in good condition and replace them if necessary.

CHANGE YOUR OIL

It’s best to get an oil change done on your vehicle as the winter months are winding down. Your oil works overtime during the cold, so the change of seasons is an ideal time to get this done.

TEST YOUR A/C

Spring brings warmer weather, and eventually, summer will come around with hot days. So if your car’s air conditioner needs work, you’ll want to deal with it quickly.

CHECK YOUR BATTERY

Extreme cold temperatures can put a significant strain on your battery. Make sure it’s working correctly, or replace it if it’s time to let it go.

THE BROWN AND WOOD SERVICE TEAM HELPS YOU PREPARE FOR SPRING

Need to get any of these spring cleaning service tasks done in the Greenville, NC, area? The Brown and Wood Buick GMC service team can assist you with whatever you need.

It’s time once again to look to the future and examine the upcoming Buick Electra E4. This future fully-electric Buick SUV underscores the manufacturer’s commitment to the future of hybrid and electric cars. While Buick continues production on this model, the Brown and Wood Buick GMC experts are here to discuss everything we know about this future Buick SUV.

WHAT IS THE BUICK ELECTRA E4?

To understand the Buick Electra E4, let’s first discuss the Buick Electra-X. This concept car, revealed in 2022, details a fully electric crossover SUV with an aerodynamic design, a tech-driven interior, and the Ultium® electric vehicle platform.

Buick plans to adapt the Buick Electra-X concept into the Buick Electra E5, set to be manufactured this year. With the Buick Electra E4, Buick is doubling down on this concept with a shorter, more compact model.

The Buick Electra E4 features a standard single electric motor powertrain that generates up to 241 horsepower. In addition, its lithium-iron phosphate Ultium® battery pack generates up to 180 kW of power; apparently, a double-motor version will also be available.

WHEN AND WHERE ARE THE BUICK ELECTRA E4 COMING OUT?

As of now, we don’t know when precisely the Buick Electra E4 is set to launch, though it’s expected to debut sometime in 2025. It’s also unknown what countries will receive the Buick Electra E4; it’s currently set to be a China-exclusive model, yet this plan might change.

FIND THE RIGHT BUICK SUV FOR YOU

We’ll have to wait a bit longer for finalized details on the Buick Electra E4. However, Brown and Wood Buick GMC can help you find the right Buick SUV available right now. So visit us today to see what we have in stock!
